2010 – The first time the USA competed in a World Pencak Silat tournament was in Jakarta, Indonesia for the 2010 Championships. Abdul-Malik Ahmad competed in Tunggal (single person form) as well as Tanding (sparring).

2012 – This year was the second time an athlete from the USA competed in a World Pencak Silat tournament in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Abdul-Malik Ahmad, now a board member, competed in two divisions again, filmed the entire event and created a documentary which has has over 65,000 views.

2014 – Became tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) Internal Revenue Code.

2015 – Silat USA team competed in the World Pencak Silat Championship in Phuket, Thailand. For the first time in history, the USA brought a team of Pencak Silat (three) athletes who competed in the World Pencak Silat Championship. The championship consisted of 45 countries from 5 continents. In the same year, the President, Wona Sumantri, and Vice President, Abdul-Malik Ahmad successfully passed the examination and obtained the official roles of International Pencak Silat Certified “Wasit / Juri” Judge and Referee.

2016 – Silat USA Team proudly competed and won one Bronze medal by one of our highly talented and promising young athletes, Adam Pereira, for Tanding (Sparring) for Men-Class D division for in World Pencak Silat Championship in Bali, Indonesia. The championship consisted of 43 countries from 5 continents. Judge Abdul Malik Ahmad, our VP, served as a judge in some Tanding divisions.

2017 – Silat USA Team proudly competed and won Silver Medal in Tanding (Sparring) by Abdul-Malik Ahmad (VP) for Men-Class F division in 2017 Belgium Open Pencak Silat Championship in Brussels, Belgium.

2018:

  • May – A team of 5 athletes and three coaches travelled to Antwerp, Belgium for the 2018 Belgium Open. Sakina Ahmad, in the junior Tanding division won USA’s first ever Gold medal (1st place) at an international Pencak Silat competition. Hamza Ahmed, another athlete in the junior division, came home with a bronze medal (3rd place).
  • September – A team of 4 junior competitors (ages 15-17) and 3 coaches/ managers attended the 5th Singapore Open Pencak Silat Championships. Team USA won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. The team competed in two events: tanding (sparring) and (tunggal) single form category.
  • December – A team of 2 athletes and 3 coaches/ managers attended the World Pencak Silat Championships in Singapore. Team USA won 1 silver in mens tanding (sparring) class D and ranked 8th of all Silat Teams in the world.

2019:

2021:

  • March & June – UPSF committed to its community service by hosting two Drive-Thru Food Drive. Sponsored by the American Diversity Group of Montgomery County, Maryland and organized by UPSF Charity Team. As part of the community service, the team also delivered the food packages to senior communities, churches, and college students.
  • November – UPSF committed to its community service by hosting two fundraising Silat seminars. All proceeds towards support to those in need in our community.

2022:

  • February – Hosted the 1st Regional competition for International Pencak Silat form: Jurus Tunggal. Participants included schools across MD and VA.
  • May – UPSF committed to its community service by hosting two fundraising Silat seminars. All proceeds towards support to those in need in our community.
  • June – Hosted a regional competition for International Pencak Silat sparring: Tanding. Participants included schools across MD and VA.
  • December – Hosted the 1st Regional competition for International Pencak Silat choreograph fight: Ganda. Participants included schools across MD and VA. USA’s First Ganda Tournament

2023:

  • January – USA Silat athletes participated in the World Cup Martial Arts Championships held in Herndon, Virginia. This event brought together some of the best martial artists from around the region to compete in various divisions and styles. Silat wins big at USA World Cup Martial Arts Tournament!
  • February – Sport Silat team competed at Sarawak Premier International Silat Championship in Sarawak, Malaysia. USA Silat Athletes Compete in Sarawak, Malaysia
  • April – Sports team competed at the Capital Classic Championship in Washington, DC.
  • June – Hosted the 2nd USA Pencak Silat Festival. Participants from across the USA participated and over 200 guests attended. Special cultural performances included traditional Angklung (bamboo instruments) and Balinese dance. 2023 Silat Festival: A Vibrant Celebration of Pencak Silat in the USA
  • August – Sports team competed in a championship in New Jersey.
  • December – Sports team competed in the 1st Middle East Pencak Silat Tournament held in Dubai. Their remarkable performance saw them secure an impressive haul of 15 medals across three different categories: Ganda, Tunggal, and Tanding. USA Silat Team Competes in Dubai

2024:

  • June – The UPSF had the honor of hosting Denny and Wewey, Indonesian Pencak Silat world champions whose martial arts prowess and global recognition have brought them to the forefront of their sport. See article for more details.
  • September – Sports team competed at the Piala Kasad 2 Pencak Silat Competition in Pakansari, Bogor, Indonesia. A standout team of 12 Americans participated this year, competing in both the artistic (seni) and combat (tanding) categories winning Silver medal in the Tanding Junior Class G and Gold in the Pre-Junior Class I.
