This program is your gateway to becoming a certified Silat coach, ideal for those looking to start or enhance a Silat program in any setting. Our curriculum, suitable for all but especially beneficial for those with martial arts experience, covers everything from basic techniques to advanced coaching strategies across four progressive levels:
- Level 1: Foundation Coach Certification
- Focus: Introduction to Pencak Silat coaching basics, with an emphasis on understanding the rules and scoring system in Tanding (sparring).
- Skills Acquired: Basic understanding of Tanding rules and scoring, conducting a basic training class, introductory knowledge of Jurus Tunggal’s empty hand forms.
- Seminar Content: Core principles of Silat, foundational stance work (kuda-kuda) and footwork (langkah), basic striking and kicking techniques, introduction to the empty hand component of Jurus Tunggal, and an overview of Tanding rules and scoring.
- Level 2: Intermediate Coach Certification
- Focus: Deepening knowledge in advanced Tanding techniques like scissor and crocodile moves, and further exploration of Jurus Tunggal, focusing on the golok aspect.
- Skills Acquired: Proficiency in teaching advanced Tanding techniques, understanding of more complex Jurus Tunggal forms, particularly with golok.
- Seminar Content: Advanced sparring techniques and strategies, detailed study of scissor and crocodile techniques, in-depth exploration of the golok part of Jurus Tunggal, and methods for instructing intermediate-level students.
- Level 3: Advanced Coach Certification
- Focus: Advanced coaching methods, focusing on competition preparation, advanced sparring techniques, and strategy.
- Skills Acquired: Ability to train students for competition, understanding of advanced Silat strategy and tactics, fitness and conditioning for Silat.
- Seminar Content: Competition rules and scoring, advanced sparring drills, physical conditioning, and mental preparation for athletes.
- Level 4: Master Coach Certification
- Focus: Mastery of coaching with a specialization in developing a competitive team and hosting tournaments, along with training to become a qualified judge/referee.
- Skills Acquired: Skills in team formation and management, tournament organization, and officiating as a judge/referee.
- Seminar Content: Advanced techniques in team development and management, logistics and best practices for hosting tournaments, comprehensive training in the rules and responsibilities of a Silat judge/referee, and strategies for promoting and growing Silat through competitive events.
Each seminar weekend offers the chance to earn one of four coaching certificates, with training in Tanding (sparring techniques) and Seni (artistic forms like Jurus Tunggal). The program includes a uniform, orange sash, golok, and toya, and participants can observe a live class for practical insights. For out-of-town attendees, Hyatt House in Herndon, Virginia, provides convenient accommodation near our facility and the Herndon Metro station.
